mystery layout transformed

Before: The Awkward Maze
The original kitchen was a disjointed space with a strange, L-shaped layout that made little sense. The sink was inexplicably placed in a corner with no counter space on either side, and the oven was practically in a hallway—making cooking a spatial puzzle. There was minimal storage, poor lighting, and no clear workflow.

After: Thoughtful Transformation - Mystery Layout = Transformed
The renovation began with a bold move: removing part of a structural wall - this freed up vital square footage. A large island was added to create an open floor plan and provide a natural traffic flow. The new layout followed a functional work triangle—sink, stove, and fridge—without compromising space. This is a home with a family of 6 and seating at the island was a nice addition to their daily routine.
To deal with odd angles and nooks, custom cabinetry was installed. Deep drawers were added under counters instead of traditional doors to maximize storage in tight areas. The walk-in pantry was outfitted with custom cabinetry, and the previous odd wall that was an eye sore became a custom wine / beverage center for entertainment.
The weird corner where the sink used to be? The sink was moved to the island to allow for more counter space and a better flow for the kitchen.

The Result: Charm with Purpose
What was once a frustrating and cramped kitchen became a bright, highly efficient space full of character. The unusual layout wasn't hidden—it was embraced and cleverly reimagined. The kitchen now feels intentional and inviting, proving that even the weirdest spaces can be made both beautiful and highly usable with the right design approach.
